TSG in The Wire (and Other Nice Places)

Happy autumn, all!  It's been gratifying to see our latest release, the Torlesse Super Group cd, gradually generating some buzz.  Slowly but surely, folks are speaking up to sing the praises of Nick and Roy's fantastic collaboration.  The esteemed Wire magazine out of the UK was the latest to jump on the bandwagon.  Not only was the cd reviewed favorably in the most recent issue (#333, November 2011), but TSG was also invited to contribute a track to The Wire's subscriber's only digital download series, Below The Radar Volume 7.  In addition to TSG's track, "Erewhon Sentinel 2" off of the self-titled album, there are fabulous contributions from Heatsick and Helm (both halves of the fabulous Birds of Delay, as featured on the Rebis comp Lead Intp Gold from a few years back), Ectoplasm Girls, Michael Chapman, Meg Baird, Richard Pinhas/Merzbow, Hieroglyphic Being, and more.  Check out a pdf of the liners here: http://thewire.co.uk/subscribe/belowtheradar/  It includes a brief but illluminating description of TSG's origins written by Roy himself.

And don't forget to check the TSG page for other recent reviews from Animal Psi, Weed Temple, and a few other recommended stores/blogs/print mags.  If you are a music journalist/blogger and would like a promotional copy of the TSG or any other albums for review purposes, please send a request via email to our primary web address, rebis@imaginaryyear.com.

Don't forget that the Rebis sale is still ongoing.  Don't miss this chance to pick up the Rebis back catalog at ridiculously reasonable prices!

New Digital-Only Release: Number None "Wrong Axon Fog"

Over the years, as Rebis has grown and evolved, our the nature of our releases have evolved as well.  From our first release of 100 cdrs with personalized handdrawn art on each (Number None's "Principles of Sitting"), to professionally burned and printed cdrs and then to plant manufactured cds, each subsequent release has felt in some ways like a leap forward in our pursuit to provide the best possible product for the artists we represent and the fans who love them.  In the 9 or so years that we've been doing this, the music industry has changed a lot, as have music consumers' desires and expectations.  Acknowledging this reality, we're moving forward as well starting with our next official release, Number None's "Wrong Axon Fog".

Consisting of material recorded when the duo were at their (arguably) most creative and prolific, the  pieces that comprise this digital download-only album were orginally slated to come out on a well-respected microlabel that (sadly) closed its doors before this material could be released.  After existing only on the hard drives and in the hazy memories of the Number None boys themselves for the past few years, the decision was made to dust off this previously unheard chestnut and put it into your hands for a pittance of a few bucks and a few minutes of download time.  This is Number None at its most zoned- 4 missives from their deep space exploration of the farthest reaches of laminal sound- and we're pleased as punch to finally be able to offer it to you.

New release // new sale

Welcome to the new home of Rebis Recordings. Yeah, the décor has changed a bit- a little brighter, a little snazzier, a bit “New Money” you might even say- but beneath its new crunchy candy shell, Rebis still has that creamy nougat center of drone that you’ve always craved and loved. Go on. Take a bite.

Not sure if this is the same Rebis Records that you always held such deep affection for? Or perhaps you’re feeling a bit uncertain that this whole “drone” thing is really for you. I mean, where’s the low-res hypnogogic poptones and grainy VHS stills? The unreadable death metal band logos and skull imagery? The trashy 60s shitcore garage vibe? “Give me my signifiers!” you scream. “Legitimate yourselves! Does Pitchfork like it? Did any of your bands ever play a Vice showcase? Are you based out of Eagle Rock/Northhampton/ Brooklyn/current urban hipster enclave?” Knowing how these questions can erode one’s inner peace, we’ve made it easy for you.

Hit the Sounds page to hear and download full songs by many of our artists. Visit dedicated pages for reviews from “those in the know”. Tune into our Soundcloud offerings, or sign up for our Twitter feed for immediate updates on all things Rebis. Take the pill. Drink the Kool Aid. To assure you of both our vitality and our good intentions, we’re kickstarting Rebis 2.0 with a monster of a release, years in the making: the debut album by Torlesse Super Group, the monster pairing of legendary New Zealand guitarist Roy Montgomery and sonic warlock Nick Guy. The geological allusions in the group's name are apt, and the results are at once familiar and surprising, wedding Roy's melodies and riffs with Nick's rumbling bass frequencies, shuddering beats, textural drones, and finely crafted sonics. Go here to sample, then order once you’ve picked your jaw up from off of the floor.

To sweeten the pot even further, we have decided to offer the entire Rebis back catalogue at sweet sale prices! Buy any single CD for $8 postage paid, any double CD for $12, or the Deluxe Drone Extravaganza deal: three single cds, or one double and one single CD, for just $20. (Do note, however, that the Torlesse Super Group disc is not included in this sale...)
